Free headline analyzer

Paste a headline or a title tag and get a score out of 100 with the reason for every point: length, specificity, power words, where your keyword sits, how it opens and how it reads, plus a preview of how it looks in Google. The score is instant and needs no account. Five AI rewrites in different angles take a free SEO Stuff account.

What the score measures

A headline has two jobs. In Google it is the title tag, the blue line that decides whether your result gets the click; Google weighs the words in it, especially the early ones, and cuts it at roughly 60 characters. On the page it is the H1, the line that decides whether the visitor keeps reading. The analyzer scores the things that measurably move both: a length that fits, a single clear thought, a concrete promise (a number, a year, a bracket), words that address the reader or signal a stake, the target keyword early, a first word that does work, and plain words with no shouting.

It cannot judge whether the promise is true or whether the page keeps it. That is still your job, and it matters more than any score.

How to get a headline from 50 to 80

  1. 1

    Put the subject first

"The complete guide to backlink audits" starts with a weak word. "Backlink audits: the complete guide" starts with what the reader searched for.

  2. 2

    Add one concrete detail

A number, a year or a bracket turns a description into a promise. "7 backlink mistakes" and "(2026 data)" both signal that the page has something specific inside.

  3. 3

Name the reader or the stake

"Your", "you", "mistakes", "cost", "before you pay": the words that make a reader feel the headline is about them rather than about the topic.

  4. 4

    Cut to one thought

If the headline has an "and", it usually has two ideas. Keep the one the page is really about; the other is a subheading.

Headlines, AI assistants and the title tag

AI assistants read your title tag too, and a plain, specific title helps a page get picked as a source: an assistant answering "what does a backlink audit cost" is more likely to lift from a page titled "Backlink audit cost in 2026: what agencies charge" than from "Our services". The GEO page covers the rest of the page shape, and the title and meta description generator writes the tag and the snippet together.

Questions people ask

Is the headline analyzer free?

The score is free and instant, with no account: it runs in your browser. The five AI rewrites need a free SEO Stuff account, because each set is a paid call to a language model, and the account is what keeps bots from running up the bill.

What does the score mean?

It is the share of points earned across seven factors: length, word count, specificity (numbers, brackets, colons), power words, your target keyword's presence and position, the opening word, and readability. Every factor shows its reason, so the score is an argument you can disagree with, not a verdict.

Does a high score mean it will rank?

No. Ranking is about the page and the site; the headline decides whether people click once the page is shown, and the title tag is one of the signals Google reads. A 90 on a page that does not answer the query does nothing. A 90 on a page that does can double its clicks.

Should the headline and the title tag be the same?

Usually close, not identical. The title tag (what Google shows) has to fit in about 60 characters and should carry the keyword early; the on-page H1 can be longer and more conversational. Score both; the length factor is calibrated for the title tag.

Why does it penalize capitals and exclamation marks?

Because readers have learned that ALL CAPS and !!! mean someone is trying too hard, and Google has too: it rewrites shouting titles. A specific promise in plain words outperforms a loud one.

How are the power words chosen?

They are the words that, in headline tests across the web, consistently lift clicks: words that promise (how to, proven, complete), address the reader (you, your), signal a stake (mistakes, warning, cost) or add emotion. The list is on this page in the factor's note, and it is a prompt, not a rule.
