Ahrefs Pricing 2026: Lite vs Standard, Limits and a Cheaper Alternative
Carlos Garcia5/23/2025Ahrefs costs $129 a month for Lite and $249 a month for Standard as of October 2026. Below those sits a $29 Starter plan, and above them are Advanced at $449 and Enterprise at $1,499. There is no free trial. The free option is Ahrefs Free, which needs no credit card but mostly covers sites you own, and refunds are limited to monthly plans you haven't used.
Every price and limit below comes from Ahrefs' own pricing page and help center, checked on October 7, 2026. After the plans, there is a plain comparison with cheaper options, including SEO Stuff's pay-per-use credits, and the cases where Ahrefs is still the better buy.
How Much Does Ahrefs Cost in 2026?
Ahrefs has one free tier and five paid plans. Prices are per month in US dollars, and Lite, Standard and Advanced each include one user.
- Ahrefs Free: $0, with limited Site Explorer and Site Audit for websites you verify.
- Starter: $29 a month, billed monthly only.
- Lite: $129 a month. Ahrefs pitches it at small businesses and personal projects.
- Standard: $249 a month, aimed at freelance SEOs and marketing consultants.
- Advanced: $449 a month, for lean in-house marketing teams.
- Enterprise: $1,499 a month, with an annual commitment required.
Paying annually saves up to 17% on Lite, Standard and Advanced. Starter can only be paid monthly. If you already have a monthly plan and want to switch to annual billing, Ahrefs asks you to email its support team.
What Costs Extra
The sticker price covers one person and the plan's built-in limits. These are the extras that push the bill up:
- Extra users: Lite allows up to 2 more at up to $40 a month each (billed by usage, see below), Standard up to 5 more at $60, Advanced up to 10 more at $80, and Enterprise charges $100 per user.
- Pay-as-you-go usage: if you turn it on, Ahrefs charges you automatically when you go past your plan's limits. On Lite, that means 500 extra credits for $50 once your shared credits run out. Pay-as-you-go purchases last three billing months.
- Add-ons: Content Kit from $99 a month, Report Builder at $99 a month, Project Boost Pro at $20 a month per project and Project Boost Max at $200 a month per project.
- Brand Radar: Ahrefs' AI visibility tool starts at $199 a month and can also be bought on its own.
As a quick example, Lite with one extra power user, billed monthly, comes to $169 a month, or $2,028 a year.

Ahrefs Lite vs Standard: What's the Difference?
Standard costs $120 a month more than Lite. That buys unlimited credits, reports 12 times bigger, four times as much history and a few tools Lite doesn't include. Here is Lite vs Standard side by side, taken from the pricing page and Ahrefs' plan comparison article:
- Price: $129 a month vs $249 a month
- Credits: 1,000 per user per month on Lite, unlimited (subject to fair use) on Standard
- Rows per report: 2,500 vs 30,000
- Export rows per month: 500,000 vs 1.5 million
- Historical data: 6 months vs 2 years
- Projects and tracked keywords: 5 and 750 vs 20 and 2,000 (projects here are sites you don't own; your own verified sites are unlimited)
- Crawl credits per month: 100,000 vs 500,000
- Extra users: up to 2 at up to $40 a month each vs up to 5 at $60 a month each
Tools You Only Get on Standard and Above
Both plans include Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, Rank Tracker, Web Analytics and API access. Standard adds Content Explorer, Portfolios (starting at 100 URLs), Batch Analysis and keyword clusters in Keywords Explorer.
It also opens extra Site Explorer reports: Calendar view, Broken backlinks, Broken links, Outgoing links, Linking authors, Link intersect, Domain and country comparison, and Site structure. If you build links, Link intersect is the one to look at. It shows sites that link to your competitors but not to you, which makes it a ready-made outreach list.
Is Ahrefs Lite Enough?
For one site or a couple of small ones, usually yes. Lite covers keyword research, competitor lookups, site audits and rank tracking. The limit you are most likely to feel is credits. Ahrefs charges a credit when you open a report, apply filters or change a date range, and 1,000 credits a month works out to roughly 45 to 50 per working day.
Standard is the better fit if any of these sound like you:
- You do client work and look at several domains every day.
- You pull keyword or backlink lists longer than 2,500 rows.
- You need more than 6 months of history to explain a traffic drop.
- You want Link intersect, Broken backlinks or Content Explorer for link building and content research.
- You keep running out of credits before the month ends.
How to Test Lite vs Standard Before You Commit
With no trial, the cheapest test is one paid month. Ahrefs lets you subscribe to any plan except Enterprise for a single month. Start on Lite and watch your usage in Account Settings. Upgrades take effect immediately, so you can move to Standard the day you hit the ceiling. If you're done after a month, cancel before the renewal date, because plans renew automatically.
Ahrefs Limits: Credits, Rows and Keyword Exports
Two numbers decide how much keyword data you can download from Ahrefs. Max rows per report caps how many rows any single report shows, and so how many you can export from it. Export rows per month caps the total across all your exports and resets with your billing month. Neither limit applies to Site Audit or Rank Tracker.
- Starter: 250 rows per report and no export rows
- Lite: 2,500 rows per report, 500,000 export rows a month
- Standard: 30,000 rows per report, 1.5 million export rows a month
- Advanced: 75,000 rows per report, 4 million export rows a month
- Enterprise: 150,000 rows per report, from 10 million export rows a month
Keywords Explorer accepts up to 10,000 keywords in one bulk search, pasted in or uploaded as a .txt or .csv file. On Lite, though, you can only see and export 2,500 rows of any single report, so a long list has to be split or pulled on a bigger plan. When your monthly export rows run out, Ahrefs blocks further exports until the next billing month unless you turn on pay-as-you-go or upgrade.
What Uses an Ahrefs Credit
Credits only apply to Starter, Lite and some older plans. Standard and above have unlimited usage, although Ahrefs calls this fair usage and says it may temporarily restrict accounts that break its terms. On the credit plans, Ahrefs' help center lists these rules:
- Opening a report uses 1 credit.
- Applying filters, changing the date range, opening the SERP viewer or position history, and switching grouping modes each use another credit. Updating SERPs in Site Explorer costs 1 credit per keyword.
- Paging through results, sorting, and reloading the same report with the same settings within 30 minutes are free.
- Credits reset on your renewal date each month and do not roll over.
Extra users on Lite are billed by how much they use: nothing for an inactive user (5 credits or fewer), $20 a month for a casual user (up to 100 credits) and $40 for a power user (up to 1,000). One power user comes with the plan.

Does Ahrefs Have a Free Trial?
No. Ahrefs answers the question on its pricing page: "We never run discounts. But if you're a website owner, you can sign up for Ahrefs Free to get free limited access to Site Explorer & Site Audit."
Is There an Ahrefs Free Trial Without a Credit Card?
Not a trial, but Ahrefs Free is close if you own a website. Ahrefs says it needs "no credit card, no trial period, no hidden charges," and it doesn't expire. It includes:
- Site Explorer, showing up to 1,000 backlinks and keywords at a time
- Site Audit, with 5,000 crawl credits a month per project
- Web Analytics, up to 1 million events per project
- Social Media Manager, AI Content Helper (1 free doc a month) and the SEO Toolbar
Site Explorer, Site Audit and Web Analytics only work on sites you verify as yours. That makes Ahrefs Free useful for checking your own backlinks and technical issues. It won't let you research competitors, and Keywords Explorer isn't included.
Ahrefs also runs free single-purpose tools, including a keyword generator, keyword difficulty checker, backlink checker and website authority checker. Ahrefs itself describes them as limited compared with a paid account.
Can You Get a Refund From Ahrefs?
Usually not. This is the full refund policy from Ahrefs' pricing page: "Ahrefs does not issue refunds in general. For monthly subscriptions, you can request for a refund if you haven't used the service, but we may decline your request if we see any material activity in your account."
So the only realistic case is a monthly plan you paid for and never used. Contact support quickly, before you start running reports. The exception only mentions monthly subscriptions, so don't count on getting money back for an annual plan.
How to Cancel an Ahrefs Subscription
Go to Account Settings, then Billing, and follow the cancellation prompts. Your plan keeps working until the end of the period you paid for. After that the account switches to Ahrefs Free and you aren't charged again. Ahrefs says there are no contracts or setup fees, though Enterprise needs a one-year commitment. It takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay, plus wire transfer for Enterprise.

Cheaper Alternatives to Ahrefs
Whether a cheaper tool works depends on which parts of Ahrefs you actually use. If you rely on rank tracking, site audits, deep link history and team seats every week, nothing replaces that suite for a fraction of the price. If you mostly look up keyword metrics and backlinks now and then, you are probably overpaying.
Ahrefs Starter at $29 a Month
Starter is Ahrefs' own budget plan. It includes the dashboard, Site Explorer, Keywords Explorer, Site Audit, Rank Tracker and the SEO Toolbar, but the limits are tight: 200 credits a month, 250 rows per report, no exports, 1 month of history, 50 tracked keywords, 1 project for a site you don't own and 5 keyword lists of up to 100 keywords each. It is billed monthly only, and you can't add users or buy extra credits.
It suits a beginner checking a few keywords and competitors a month. Anyone doing client work will outgrow it quickly.
Free Options: Search Console and Ahrefs Free
For your own site, the best free keyword data comes from Google Search Console. Google describes it as a free service that shows which search queries bring up your site and how often people click. If Google Analytics shows your keywords as "(not provided)," Search Console is where you see them instead.
Pair it with Ahrefs Free for backlinks and technical checks, and a small site can get by without a paid tool for a while. Search Console data is also the starting point for striking-distance keyword mining, which finds pages ranking just off page 1. The gap is research beyond your own site. Neither tool gives you full competitor keyword data or difficulty scores for long keyword lists.
SEO Stuff Pay-Per-Use Credits
SEO Stuff is our own tool, so weigh this section accordingly. It sells one-time credit packs instead of a subscription, and one credit covers one keyword lookup:
- Essentials: $49 for 400 credits, about 12 cents per keyword
- Startup: $99 for 3,000 credits, about 3.3 cents per keyword
SEO Stuff's Keywords Explorer takes a keyword, domain or URL and returns search volume, keyword difficulty, search intent and AI Overview data, with filters and export. Bulk keyword search checks up to 1,000 keywords at once for volume, difficulty and intent, with CSV export. The backlinks explorer lists links pointing to any domain, with filters for follow or nofollow and first-seen or last-seen dates, plus CSV export.
Here is what it doesn't do. SEO Stuff has no site audit crawler, no rank tracker and no content tools. Think of it as keyword and backlink data you pay for when you need it. It won't replace the whole Ahrefs suite. For a step-by-step way to work through a big list, see how to check 1,000 keywords in 30 minutes.
Ahrefs vs Pay-Per-Use: What You Would Actually Pay
Here is the math with the verified prices above. Ahrefs figures use monthly billing, and SEO Stuff figures use the Startup pack at 3.3 cents per keyword. These are worked examples, not customer data.
Example 1: 1,000 Keywords a Month
- Ahrefs Lite: 12 x $129 = $1,548 a year, or roughly $1,285 if you pay annually and get the full 17% off
- SEO Stuff: 12,000 lookups, which is four Startup packs, or $396 a year
Pay-per-use is about $1,150 cheaper on monthly billing. You also give up rank tracking, site audits and historical data, so it only wins if you weren't using those.
Ahrefs Starter is cheaper still at $348 a year, but it shows 250 rows per report, has no exports and gives you 200 credits a month, so it suits checking small lists, not pulling 1,000 keywords into a spreadsheet.
Example 2: One 3,000-Keyword Project
On SEO Stuff, one Startup pack covers it for $99. On Ahrefs, a month of Lite costs $129, but Lite caps each report at 2,500 rows, so you would split the list or pay $249 for a month of Standard. For a one-off project the gap is small. The bigger risk with any subscription is forgetting to cancel before it renews.
Example 3: 10,000 Keywords a Month
- Ahrefs Standard: 12 x $249 = $2,988 a year, with unlimited credits and the full toolset
- SEO Stuff: 120,000 lookups, which is 40 Startup packs, or $3,960 a year
Ahrefs wins this one on price and on features. At 3.3 cents a keyword, $129 buys about 3,900 lookups and $249 buys about 7,500. If you check more than roughly 4,000 keywords every month, all year, a subscription usually costs less.
If you are not sure how many keywords you really need to check, get a free SEO audit and start with the pages that are already close to ranking.
Ahrefs or a Cheaper Alternative: Which Should You Choose?
Choose Ahrefs if you track rankings and run site audits every week, manage several client sites with a team, need years of backlink and ranking history, or rely on Content Explorer, Link intersect and Batch Analysis. A credit pack won't do those jobs.
Choose pay-per-use credits if your research comes in bursts, like a site launch or a quarterly content plan, and you mainly need search volume, difficulty, intent and backlink lists. It also fits if you check fewer than about 4,000 keywords a month, need to export them, and don't want a bill that renews whether you log in or not.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Ahrefs cost per month?
As of October 2026, Starter is $29, Lite $129, Standard $249, Advanced $449 and Enterprise $1,499 a month, with Enterprise requiring an annual commitment. Paying annually saves up to 17% on Lite, Standard and Advanced.
Is Ahrefs Lite enough for a small business?
Usually, if you run one or two sites and do keyword research in short sessions. Lite gives each user 1,000 credits a month, 2,500 rows per report and 6 months of history. Move to Standard if you keep running out of credits or need bigger exports.
Can I get an Ahrefs free trial without a credit card?
There is no free trial of the paid plans. Ahrefs Free needs no credit card and doesn't expire, but it only covers sites you verify and doesn't include Keywords Explorer.
Does Ahrefs give refunds?
Not in general. Monthly subscribers who haven't used the service can request one, and Ahrefs may still decline if it sees material activity on the account.
What is the Ahrefs keyword export limit?
It depends on the plan: 2,500 rows per report and 500,000 export rows a month on Lite, 30,000 and 1.5 million on Standard, and 75,000 and 4 million on Advanced. Keywords Explorer accepts up to 10,000 keywords per bulk search.
Is there a free alternative to Ahrefs?
Google Search Console is free and shows the queries your own site appears for, and Ahrefs Free covers your own backlinks and site audits. For competitor and bulk keyword data, you need a paid plan or pay-per-use credits.
Final Thoughts
Lite at $129 is the right Ahrefs plan for most solo site owners, and Standard at $249 earns its price once you do client work or outgrow 1,000 credits. There is no trial and refunds are rare, so test with one monthly payment and set a reminder before it renews. If you only need keyword and backlink data a few times a year, pay-per-use credits will cost less. If you use the whole suite every week, Ahrefs is worth the subscription.
